Trying something new…

Sometimes, certain images call for something MORE. This image just drew me in (who could resist those baby blues?), but it needed something. I think this treatment is perfect–it’s warm and texturally interesting and the brown tones make his blue eyes POP. Yeah…this one is getting printed BIG!

Taking photographs of one’s own children…

is rather like herding cats. Blindfolded. Through deep sucking mud. That is to say, it is a less than pleasant and often less than productive task. But not today–today I captured proof that I do indeed have three sons and also have proof that on occasion, they even love one another. Today was a good day to be a mom…and a photographer. And while the fall colors are glorious right now, I love, LOVE classic black and white portraits.

I believe I have mentioned my love of cupcakes before…

so you can imagine my excitement to find out that Edwardsville now has a cupcake shop! The Cupcakery is now open and I can’t wait to stop by and do some expert taste testing. Hmm…think I’ll have any help from the hooligans?
If wishes were horses…

I’d still have this guy. Ain’t he purty? He’s a 12 year old Thoroughbred gelding who raced til he was TEN. TEN!! I swear his legs are cast iron, and his personality is akin to a big, goofy dog. He’s 16.2 hands of gray gorgeousness and no matter how bad my day may have been, he only needs to nicker to me and it all melts away. Many of my “horsey” friends do not have portraits of themselves with their equine partners, and I can’t help but wonder why? We spend countless hours and countless dollars on them, so why not take some time and have portraits taken? Action shots are invaluable, but wouldn’t you like to preserve some of those “quiet” memories, too? I’d love to come to your barn and photograph you and your horse(s), so call me today and reserve some time while the leaves are changing!
Once your portraits are finished, you can see my friend Cindy at Barn Brats to have her make custom glassware for you! (Oh, the holiday possibilities…)
